John Grant is an American-born Icelandic singer, musician, and songwriter known for his deep, emotive voice and candid lyrics. Born on July 25, 1968, in Buchanan, Michigan, Grant first gained prominence as the lead singer, pianist, and primary songwriter for the alternative rock band The Czars. After the band's dissolution in 2006, he embarked on a solo career that has garnered critical acclaim. ​

Grant's debut solo album, Queen of Denmark (2010), produced by members of the band Midlake, delves into his personal struggles with addiction and his journey toward self-acceptance. The album received widespread praise, with Mojo magazine naming it the best album of 2010. ​
